FILM and VIDEO DIRECTING:
Daniel's recently completed short film, Not This War, which he wrote, directed and edited, was an Official Selection of Slamdance's Anarchy competition. His 2004 narative short, The Great Lie, which he co-wrote, camera-directed and edited, can still be seen on iFilm.com. Dan's feature-length documentary, Me, Jane was awarded "Best Educational Documentary" at the 2000 NYIIFF and his 1998 short film Y2K, nominated for "Best New Director" at the 2003 IFTC, was showcased on KQED's Independent View and also hosted by iFilm.com.
Dan's directing credits also include music videos for Atlantic, Chrysalis UK, and Domo Records as well as a slate of top-flight training DVDs for a number of renowned martial artists and members of the U.S. Olympic Swimming team and a series of promotional videos for the Olympic Council of Asia.
TELEVISION PRODUCTION DESIGN:
As a freelance production designer in New York, Dan designed more than eighty commercials, music videos and television shows. The infamous music video, Baby Got Back, earned him an MTV Art Direction Award nomination in 1992, and his work for NJN's State of the Arts garnered two Emmy Awards (out of three nominations), one for "Best Opening Title Sequence" and another for "Best Production Design" in 1994. His work on the NBC weekly show NBA Inside Stuff earned him another Emmy nomination for production design in 1998.
Dan's recent design for NFL Films' Under the Helmet is currently broadcasting on Fox. He also created the look and attitude of WMAC Masters, a live-action martial arts show on Fox, working as production designer, director and editor. Other designs include NBC's In Sport, Nickelodeon's Adventures of Pete and Pete and Accidentally on Purpose, as well as Lifetime's The Jane Pratt Show.
STAGE and EVENT DESIGN:
Dan's 2003 stage design for the San Francisco Symphony's The Flying Dutchman garnered Top Ten honors from both the San Francisco Chronicle and the New York Times. His other credits include the Symphony's 2004 production of Fidelio, as well as designs for the Nintendo and Sega World Championships, Disney's Epcot Center, MTV's Sports Festival and The Surreal Field at Woodstock '94.
